Thanos Kokkinis & Dov Oron

The image of Thanos creates a surreal atmosphere, transporting us to a fantastical world. We seem to be crossing floating clouds to reach a small Alice. The image has been crafted with precision, with strategically placed hints of red. The girl's outstretched hand seems to be reaching for the unknown, evoking a feeling of curiosity. With its colours and dreamlike quality, the image reminds me of a Pop Art painting.

Dov's photograph is equally surreal. Here, too, the hands in the foreground and the one that hides a gossip in the background are the protagonists of the image. The theatricality is probably given by the subjects, but the photographer's eye has created a unique story that differs from what we are typically used to seeing within this community.

Goutam Maiti

This image is quite different from the usual stair shots. It's full of colour and doesn't focus on the architecture but rather on the movement. The various positions are enhanced, like in a chronophotography by Eadweard Muybridge. The addition of the light and the shadow created by storytelling gives it the perfect finishing touch.

These two images are beautiful examples of what the street can offer us. The composition is fundamental. It's not enough to capture the moment. A good photographer frames it and, as if by magic, captures details that they wouldn't have seen if they weren't photographing. Two wonderful shots that tell a story!

Catalin Braga

This image immediately struck me for its simplicity and beauty. The composition is perfect, with two blurry figures in the foreground acting as wings to the main woman in focus. The interaction of glances creates a triangulation effect.

What makes the woman stand out is not only the colours she is wearing but also her intelligent gaze. In today's world, it is rare to see people without their cell phones, especially with such a captivating gaze. You might wonder if this was a lucky shot, but it seems like it was a magical moment captured through the lens.

Gabi Ben Avraham

I'm not a big fan of chiaroscuro because they often appear as static images with high contrast but lack that special quality that makes the images truly memorable. However, Gabi is a true master of chiaroscuro, and his images always possess that special quality! He has the ability to create small stories within one shot, making his images unforgettable. It's as if his camera knows exactly what to capture amidst the chaos of the streets, just like this one

This portrait, with its perfect black and white tones and absence of any exaggerations or smudges, evokes the nostalgia of analogue photographs and the magic of seeing images slowly develop in liquid. Mikael has managed to capture a candid moment and turn it into a perfect portrait, while still preserving the subject's essence by only sacrificing a tiny piece of the hand. The young man in the photograph may be smiling, aware that he has become the photographer's subject, or he may be lost in thought while following the smoke of his cigarette.

Miracle, Acal, Guatemala, 1997 – (Leica M6, Noctilux, E6)

I chose this image because it reminds us to always have hope. At first glance, it may seem to depict great suffering, but eventually, everything brightens up.

An elderly Mam widow with dementia came to our clinic in Acal and unwrapped her shawl. In the shawl, Maria Ordóñez had a baby that she had found abandoned in the cornfield. Maria thought that she was nursing the baby who was about 2 months old and weighed less than 2 kilos. We immediately took the baby to the nearest hospital where she lived for several months until she recovered and gained weight. She was adopted by Faviana in the village. After I posted photos on FB, the baby (Cecilia) contacted me to tell me she still lives in Acal, is 27 years old, and has 3 daughters of her own.

The way the light is filtered and the subtle variations in the colors combine to create an unsettling effect in this picture. The little girl's gaze may suggest that she is witnessing something risky, although the reality is probably quite different. This photo highlights how a single moment captured in time can be interpreted in various ways, giving rise to multiple narratives.

This week, I selected two images that depict the moment when two children show their determination to be strong and victorious. The first image represents a tribute to freedom, while the second one captures a delightful moment of a child feeling superior to an imaginary superhero. I appreciated the simplicity of the narrative and the ability to recognize the beauty in small everyday things.

The next two pictures are stunning colour images that speak for themselves and don't require any accompanying words.

This week, I chose an image that represents the classic spirit of contemporary street. It is a colorful image that captures a particular moment, almost surreal in this case. The confusion surrounding the protagonists does not detract from the visual impact. It’s not so much the strong light that helps create depth as the three different planes of the cotton candy. A beautiful moment.

The photograph in question is an exquisite black and white composition, skillfully lit to highlight its beauty. What makes it special is that it simultaneously conveys two different stories - one of hope and another of regret. At first glance, one might mistake it for a still from a movie or an image from a fashion magazine. Nevertheless, on closer inspection, one realizes that there is a more profound and genuine message behind the picture, leaving a bitter aftertaste.

This image features three subjects: a couple and a cat. It is unclear whether the cat belongs to the couple or if it is simply a guest seeking warmth. It is also unclear whether the couple is taking a break from a trip or if their car is their home. The woman's gaze and the man's thoughts are unknown, leaving us with many questions. The cat's intentions are also unknown.

A perfectly framed image depicting a different society, reminiscent of the great American photographers.

This week, I selected five images that captured my attention with their unique appearance.

Tom Hyde infused an everyday gesture with a sense of mystery, using light and water droplets.

Tejal Mewar surprised me with a perfect black and white composition, flooded with light, featuring a frog.

Bernhard Wasem created a love story between two coat hangers.

Dov Oron made me smile with a photograph of two scholars in the same mirrored position.

Lastly, Debabrata Dey's portrayal was absolutely unusual where the child looks just like the mother - it's a true gem.

The image is constructed perfectly. The dromedary serves as a frame for a painting that depicts the subject's friends and a man who appears to have noticed the photographer's presence. This moment of life has been captured so perfectly that it looks like a still from a movie set.

Borislav Kovachev

The image by Borislav is perfectly constructed with two diagonal lines. In the foreground, two people are slightly out of focus and act as a presentation to the protagonist. The protagonist has seen the photographer, but is not looking directly into the camera. The day is dark and cold, and everyone is rushing to their jobs. It seems as though time has frozen in this moment.

These five images are striking due to their narrative composition, each one depicting a search within the frame. They prompt reflection in a different way

Today, I compared two scenarios.

In the first two pictures, a female figure is portrayed. Although it has become a common sight today, with people glued to their cell phones, the two images stand out for their notable differences. While one of the pictures is in black and white, the other one is in color, and both use light to communicate. The first image has a static impression, as if it belongs to a bygone era, where time moved slowly. On the other hand, the second image represents the fast-paced nature of time around us, which often feels overwhelming and hard to keep up with.

In the two other images, we see two landscapes that evoke a sense of tranquility. The simple life amidst nature takes center stage as man takes a backseat to the trees.

Three black and white images, each depicting intelligently composed scenes that tell a story of our times in the Western world. These scenes capture the blend of modern and old styles that coexist in a world that changes at lightning speed.

The gaze is present in all three images: the challenging look through Idelson's lens, the connection between the two men in Gill's pub, and the sad exchanged look between the two young lovers in Benari's photo.
