ProgressivE-Zine 19 showcases a new generation of vibrant Spanish artists. Each of these 12 street photographers adds to the story of Spain. They make valuable and compelling contributions about their culture’s significance. The moveable feast of Spain continues, and we are better as a result.

Alberte A. Pereira (A Guarda - Galicia, 1964) is a self-taught and independent photographer. After a first approach to photography with his first film camera during the 80’s, it was not until 2012, however, when he really involves in photography, inclined towards street photography, but also towards documentary. A small camera is his constant companion and it is his tool when wandering around the streets and witnessing what is going on them. His works have been recognized and awarded in different festivals and competitions, such as Finalist at the III Certamen de Fotografía Signo Editores 2018, Street photography category; Finalist at ASPA - Alghero Street Photography Awards 2018; 2nd Prize at the LensCulture Street Photography Awards 2017, among others. His street photography work has been published in the print and digital media and has been exhibited in Vigo, Santiago, A Coruña, Ferrol, Lisbon, Miami, San Francisco, London or Milano. https://alberteapereira.com/

Álvaro Vegazo: I’m from Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Spain and I’m a Civil Engineer. Photography is my passion, especially I like Street and Documentary Photography. I started to photograph when I was 15 years old, but nothing serious until 2013. Initially, I got interested in Documentary photography, and while I was taking photos in this process, I had the imperative necessity to take photos continually. Andrea Ratto: I was born in Genova (Italy) in 1976, but I have been based in A Coruña (Spain) since 2005. In recent years I have been drawn to street photography, which to me now means a way of documenting society with a critical view. In 2017 I visited 26 European countries with my camera in search of European society. I published the photobook “Europa” thanks to a crowdfunding campaign in the Kickstarter platform. Andres Cesar: I am a Spanish street photographer, born in Almería and currently residing in the Canary Islands. His adventures in the world of photography began accidentally three years ago, when he was going through a difficult time with his health and began to look for an activity that could also provide some therapeutic value. Some of my works have been exposed on several occasions locally and worldwide, as some of my photographs have been selected for exhibitions in Paris, Berlin and Israel. Fran Balseiro: I’m 58 years old and I live in Viveiro, a small town in Lugo (Spain). My love of photography began about 15 years ago. Since then, I haven’t released the camera. Although I started photographing landscape and nature, I find street photography more interesting. When you go out into the street, every moment, every instant is different. It’s the emotion of going out and not knowing what you’re going to find, relating to people and sometimes knowing something about their lives. I like turning street photography into art. I’m a pretty perfectionist person and I always try to look for art in my photography. I give a lot of priority to composition and especially to light, looking for the best hours. Guille Ibanez: Born in Madrid (1977) but drawn to Manchester, where he now lives, Guille Ibanez (1977) is a photographer whose work focuses on culture, tradition and human interaction. Originally trained as a cinematographer, he still combines professional film and video work with his passion for photography. The tension between the moving and the still image goes to the heart of Guille's work, and his pictures are often referred to as being like frames from a film. His discovery of photography began relatively recently with street photography. However, he quickly realised that photography was about more than just capturing isolated moments and that the real power of the camera was as a means of exploring human behaviours and stories and as a tool to connect and interact with the world and the people around him. Guille develops long term projects mostly in his home country of Spain, but he also works within the UK and Asia. Religion and human faith play a major part in his work which has been part of many festivals around Europe and America and he has been a finalist at prestigious festivals such as MIFA (Moscow International Foto) and BSPF (Brussels Street Photography Festival). http://www.guilleibanez.com/

Isa Egea Vera: Born in Barcelona 06/29/59 With studies in Fine Arts and a specialization in painting at the Escola Massana, Isa Egea also trained in video editing. She studied theater at Nanci Tuñon's workshop and belonged to a theater group for years, teaching and directing. She has created children's workshops using film or painting techniques in different national and international places. Finally, in 2008, as the result of an artistic residency in Porto, she definitely embraced photography. Self-taught and deliberately free, she has not wanted to study on currents or photographic aesthetics to preserve the "cleanliness" of her personal gaze. Imágenes de Isa Egea

Jose Padín: (Hermano Lobo) A Coruña 1970. Self-taught, he uses photography as a means of expression and as therapy to survive from day to day. Without being pigeonholed in any style, he photographs everything that catches his attention, looking for images that convey emotions. Photograph compulsively with the intention of capturing that image that, being imperfect from the formal point of view, captivates us and transports us to other worlds, dream universes that sometimes trap us and make us feel intense emotions. The images must speak for themselves, they must reveal the photographer's soul more than the photographed subject, they must be a mapped map of the photographer's thoughts. If this is achieved we can say that we have done a good job. Lilian Alcantara: Keeper of memories, photographer and researcher in Social Sciences. Historian by training, Master in Social History of Culture from UFPR (Federal University of Paraná - Brazil) and Master in Didactics of Social Sciences from UV (University of Valencia - Spain). All forms of life interest me, without restrictions, and photography was the way I found to make known something of the worlds I navigate, to share my constant search for the universal in human singularities. https://lilianalcantara.com

Mónica Murillo: I am from the Canary Islands and although I have lived in Madrid for most of my life, I can say that I have a broken heart. A fan of photography for not too long, but long enough to know that it will stay with me forever. Photography for me is a reflection of who we are, it is emotion, it is like a window to a parallel world in which I choose the moments that will stay forever. This means of expression has helped me to sharpen my senses and sharpen my attention. What used to be walking from one place to another only thinking about the destination, has now become enjoying the road without wanting to reach the end. I am attracted to colors, lights, shadows, gestures, little stories or bits of life and especially, life behind the glass, those that seem to protect us from anything that happens behind them, clean, dirty, translucent or wet, I love them in all Its modalities and with all its reflexes. To say that the street photo in particular is the one that inspires and amuses me the most, it has activated springs that I had asleep and now my eyes are more awake than ever to see things that in another time would go unnoticed. Rodrigo Roher was born in Salamanca (Spain) in 1976. He has a degree in Audiovisual Communication as well as in Social Work (Universidad de Salamanca). Fascinated by the world of art and once he settled in Madrid, Rodrigo took several Fine Arts' courses (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). Although in 2007 he became interested in photography, it is in 2013 when street photography became his most representative style. Winner. Silvia Pombo: studied Economics in the 1990s at the University of Santiago de Compostela and Psychology at the Open University of Catalonia, where she became interested in the differences between people in both those disciplines. She has worked as an economist in Development NGOs for many years, which has made her aware of how much individuals have in common, in contrast to what the media often portrays. In 2014 Silvia started to combine her job with a self-taught approach to photography to explore other ways to understand and interpret the world.
