- Are you a professional photographer? I'm a passionate and serious amateur photographer.
- Why street photography? Right now it's the kind of photography that moves me and tells stories. I love people, crowds. Go unnoticed and be invisible.
- How would you describe your photography style? I love to show unusual situations, that can be seen every day, beauty can be on our doorstep. I really like the metro and train stations, you never know what you can shoot there.
- What makes a good picture from your point of view? What do you look for in an image? For me a good picture is an image that makes me think, that doesn't need any words. I also look for it in my own images, to tell a story, showing the world through my eyes.
- How do you educate yourself to take better photos? I love to read, and studying the works of other photographers makes me better, not to imitate but to try to improve myself.
- Where in the world would you most like to photograph? The best place in the world to photograph is where I am, any place is good as long as we're paying attention
- Who would you most like to photograph and what kind of pictures do you avoid shooting? I like to photograph everyone and I have no favourite type, for me everything is photography, as long as it tells a story.
- Have you been confronted by someone whose photo you took on the street? What would be your advice on how to avoid confrontation when doing Street Photography? I don't like to personalize, I don't care if it's John or Joseph, for me the important thing is the human factor. Here in Portugal people do not like to be photographed by strangers, so we have two options: Ask for permission (and lose the moment) or shoot more in the crowd (in Lisbon before the Pandemic every tourist had a camera). I've had some confrontations but it's always been good, nothing a smile won't solve
- Your favourite street image of your own to date and why? I like all of my pictures, they all have a story to tell. But my favourite is the one that I think defines me (photographer of the moment), I took at the beginning of 2019, I photographed a girl inside a tram with a shirt in the same colour as the pants on the tram’s an outside advert. For me, it's what I like to call "the moment"
- Your favourite piece of equipment? Usually, I use my camera, but if it has to be my smartphone to capture "That image", then so be it.
- What are your favourite settings (Aperture. Shutter Speed, ISO, White Balance, Focus, Manual/Auto, Image Format – RAW/JPEG) for Street Photography and why? Normally manual and automatic ISO, or if I use the wide (manual) lens, I do zone focus. Autofocus is normally single point, white balance automatic, and Raw most of the time
- Is photography art? For me it's art, I'm not claiming that I'm an artist, but photography is art
- Black And White or Color? I do mostly Black & White, but I do colour as well. When I look at a picture I try to see if colour diverts attention from what I want to show, if so, I go for Black & White
-What are your thoughts on editing? For me, everything helps to create a great image. Editing is part of the process
- Why do you share at Progressive Street and who would you like to see showcased from Progressive Street? Facebook for me is where I can show my work, but also see the work of other photographers. For me, Progressive Street is a group where I see different work that I call out of the box. I am happy to have this opportunity and maybe trying to help others
