A good picture to me is when I want to keep looking at it longer and let my imagination go, wondering what happened here and how and why. The storytelling Also important to me is light, shadow, emotions, and especially unusual events.
My name is Rene Geensen. Born January 12, 1964 in Wormerveer, a small village near Amsterdam. Raised in the Poelenburg district in Zaandam, a multicultural society, I come from a creative family with a father who was the singer in a Rock & Roll band. He was also a painter and photographer.
My mother created and sold just about anything to do with flowers. Up until the age of 16, football was everything to me but a serious injury to my knee ended any dreams I had of a playing career. In my youth, however, I was also very interested in all aspects of the arts, culture and architecture. So it was that I devoured everything to do with these subjects in my local library. In fact, the interest has never gone away and has enabled me to create in my own way with photography.
I work 36 hours a week as a salesman of building materials. Am also the father and grandfather of 2 lovely children and 2 fantastic grandsons aged 2 and 4. My wife and I love to explore other cultures and try to go on vacation every year.
Photography is my passion because I love to set the alarm for 4 o'clock and then drive for an hour to get to Rotterdam and then try to catch the first sunlight or photograph the Zaanse Schans with the mist and the rising sun. Feel the thrill of what I see. I always try to play with light. It is street and landscape photography that gives me the most satisfaction.
