I am Shubhodeep Roy a 23-year-old internationally award winning photographer based in Kolkata, India. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce from the University Of Calcutta. Photography is my passion and I have started doing it from a very young age. I have been working on social responsibility projects and trying to photograph socially important issues. My photographs have been exhibited globally and have been published on several occasions nationally and internationally. Being a photography enthusiast, I have been travelling near and far to capture interesting human stories for the past few years, exploring and documenting a range of different aspects of human life. Capturing the human element is always key to my photography, and through my photos, I want to share my unique perspective and experience. I don’t know if or when this unquenchable thirst will come to an end!

Overseas is the quarterly membership magazine for the Royal Over-Seas League. Established by our founder Sir Evelyn Wrench in 1915, the journal is ROSL's primary method of communication with our global membership; providing informative articles about world issues, club news and details about our latest events.
This year 2023 his photographs have been a part of, and he is been invited to the prestigious 11th Edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival, in the United Arab Emirates and was declared as one of the winners, of the Digital Fine Arts category too.
The purpose of this exhibition is to show the work of the whole Progressive Street Gang – a diverse collection of photographers from around the world – which is not exclusively a group of street photographers but a group of photographers across the board. Talking about styles and differences in techniques and approaches is boring and not even very useful, because what counts in photography is sincerity. For this reason, I have chosen to couple images, a kind of shot – reverse-shot, freely interpreted. As in life, there is a glance and a counter-glance that gives depth to everything and every event, so this conceptual escamotage helped me to select photos that when put together managed to create a story and provoke thought, whilst showing at the same time the peculiarities of the various photographers. This is my 2nd time getting exhibited at a United Nations event, the last time I was exhibited at a United Nations event was the 15th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Barbados.”

A photograph shows a group of Afghans of the Kabuliwala Community playing cricket in the Maidan area of Kolkata, India on the day after Eid celebrations, as little did they knew that what was awaiting in their fate. On the 15th of august, Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan was captured by the Taliban seizing the country under their rule. Kolkata is home to several Afghans, more popularly known as 'Kabuliwalas', which translates to "men from Kabul". They have been coming to Kolkata for centuries selling dry fruits, asafoetida, and carpets. The Afghan community in Kolkata, India now consists of thousands of Afghans with an uncertain future, as now they are completely trapped in a foreign land, all they can now do is to pray, pray for their families and friends back home.
Devotion – It ranks only thirty-fifth among the world’s longest rivers but nothing can outrank its meaning and sacred significance in the hearts of India’s one billion Hindus. To them, the river is the divine mother, a goddess known as Ganga, Mother Ganga, Maa Ganga, a deity that can wash away your sins and your suffering, and take the souls of your deceased loved ones straight to heaven. It is not just a river giving life in the form of water, but a whole culture of the river as a deity: to the Indian Hindu people she is not merely water, but holy water, the very source of salvation, drenching hearts and souls with sustenance and grace even as she irrigates their farms, giving freely to all and purifying all who bathe in her or drink from her. This is a photograph captured on a misty morning on the bank of the sacred river the Ganges in Prayagraj, India.
INTERNATIONAL 5 PHOTO AWARD 2021
[ Kolkata, INDIA ] I was walking through the streets of Kolkata, where I found a small old fashioned empty Barber Shop where a Barber was sitting, it was the time when just the lockdown was over in India and people had just started coming out of their houses maintaining Covid-19 protocols, I was having a conversation with the barber, all I gotta know that how his business was declining day by day due to the effect of the pandemic and after a 6 months lockdown while having the conversation he looked at his mirror that’s when I took the shot focusing on his reflection in the mirror. For me, this picture is a reflection of a common man, who is working hard by running a barbershop, during these tough times of pandemic too.
