I am a 60-year-old Protestant pastor from Stuttgart, Germany. Although I have moved around a lot, I am currently working in Stuttgart and will soon be moving to Ostfildern, a small town nearby.
My passion for photography began in 1998 when I purchased an analogue SLR camera. Initially, I focused on capturing landscapes and familiarized myself with the camera's technology to set it manually. This knowledge has proven useful in dealing with light. However, since I couldn't develop my photographs myself, I always felt disappointed with the results.
After taking a break from photography for a few years, I bought a digital SLR camera in 2006 and shifted my focus to photographing architecture. I regret not having my small series of buildings in Stuttgart that were subject to demolition, as they have been replaced by cold and sterile new buildings.
I prefer black and white photography and have been sticking to it for a long time now. While photographing buildings, people kept running through my pictures, which initially annoyed me. However, I found it attractive and started capturing people in certain situations, leading to my interest in street photography. This style developed over the years, and people have become the main focus of my photography.
Most of my photos are taken in Stuttgart and its immediate vicinity. I agree with Saul Leiter, who once said that the most interesting things happen in our neighbourhood. Alongside street photography, I also enjoy taking spontaneous still lifes.
I find the spontaneous discovery of people and things in everyday life fascinating, and I don't want to miss it anymore.
