Serendipity
by Don Scott
I don't believe in luck. I do believe in serendipity, especially in street photography. Serendipity is defined as finding valuable things unintentionally or the occurrence and development of events in a happy or beneficial way.
Luck can be good or bad. Serendipity is always good. There have been many times when I am on the street looking for photos when the things happened serendipitously to create a scene worth capturing. Here are some examples of serendipity in my street photos.
I saw a man taking a nap in a park in San Francisco's China Town. As I positioned myself to take the shot, a flurry of pigeons flew over him.
A bride and groom were having their photo taken as they stood next to the Bethesda Fountain. A sudden gust of wind came up and a woman raced to keep the bride's veil out of the fountain's water.
Two acrobats seem to get assistance from a mermaid in the background.
Different ages in a woman's life seem to be illustrated by three women standing on a corner.
As a serious man walks by a wall, his shadow, bent around a corner, seems to reveal his more humorous
alter ego.
Three people dressed in costumes from the 1930s, line up in a neat row.
A stern looking police officer stands in front of a poster that encourages him to explore his playful side.
Members of a wedding party, posing for a group photograph, smile and wave as they see someone they know who is driving by at that moment.
